Are we missing the point by asking the wrong question?
At Tandem, we're tackling the challenges of AI and screen time head-on. Creating an app for preschoolers comes with a huge responsibility: to prioritise children's development, strengthen family bonds, and build technology that families can trust.
One of my fondest memories is sitting in my brother’s room with our mother as she read aloud The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. It was dark and cold outside, but we were snug under the duvet, transported together into the heart of the story. We delighted in craning our necks up at Henry Sugar’s London balcony, imagining the thrill of being showered in £20 notes!!!
TANDEM is partnering with Nesta's #FairerStart mission to ensure their AI-powered early childhood tools are built with and for children in disadvantaged communities, not just those who can afford to pay.
I was very honored to recently be invited by the Centre for Human Inspired AI at the University of Cambridge to join a panel discussion on AI and early childhood. It was a great discussusion, where we covered a large variety of issues, asking more questions than answers.
We want to see all children, everywhere, have the best start in life. It's a simple idea, but a big challenge. That's why we're creating TANDEM.
